Becoming the True You: Out of Survival Mode into the You that God Created.

For so many years, I lived in what I now realize was survival mode. Maybe you felt it too; that quiet, constant pressure to hold everything together, to keep the peace, to anticipate every need before anyone has to ask.
We become protectors.
Caretakers.
Fixers.
Peacemakers.
Performers.
And without even noticing, we start living with a version of ourselves that was built as a fear, duty, or trauma, not the truth.
That version becomes the false self we talked about in the last devotional
She isn't "bad. She is simply who we learned to be in order to feel safe in a world that wounded us.
But survival mode is not where God calls us to live.
There comes a moment, the holy shift, where God whispers:
"You don't have to keep pretending everything is fine."
You don't have to take care of everybody. You don't have to be the peacemaker. You don't have to keep performing. You don't have to stay here in that place. You don't have to play small, stay silent, or hide with what hurts, and you do not have to live the story somebody else wrote for you.
So how do we get out of survival mode? How do we get out of this vicious cycle? Scripture tells us exactly how to do it
Romans 12:2 says,
"Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Renewing your mind isn't about forcing positivity, it's about changing the story the world wants you to believe, the story you tell yourself every day for your whole life because we believed what the world said.
Your story should align with what God is writing in you, His truth about who you were created to be.
It's the moment you say:
"I don't have to be who I was. I'm allowed to become who God says I am."
This is where the true self begins to bloom, Not the one shaped by the world's lies.
The world taught you to survive. God teaches you to live.
The world taught you to shrink. God called you to bloom. The world taught you to hold everything in. God invites you to be held.
You are not what happened to you. You are not who you had to be to survive. You are not the mask, the role, or the expectations.
You are His, chosen, loved, seen, and free to write a new story, a beautiful one, a whole one, a redeemed one.
Transformation or the renewing of your mind starts with one new thought.
Father,
Thank you for loving me through every season, even the ones where I was only surviving. Show me the places where the false self still guides me and teach me to let go of her with compassion.
Renew my mind with your truth.
Rewrite the stories that the world once authored.
Lead me into freedom, into fullness, and into the woman You always meant for me to be.
In Jesus' name,
Amen
